Fun with Farm Animals!

We started Farm week off by learning about pigs.  We learned that we get bacon, sausage and pork from pigs.  We also learned that pigs have a hard time sweating, so they like to cool off by rolling in the mud.  So, of course, we had to roll our piggies in the mud too!  Chocolate pudding mud, that is! Yum!

Then we learned about sheep.  Sheep give us veal to eat, and wool that we use to make sweaters, blankets and jackets.  We had fun pretending we were farmers shearing our sheep.

Balloons, shaving cream and popsicle sticks- great fun!

Cows give us all kinds of yummy things!  Hamburgers, steak, and milk.  We use the milk and cream to make things like cheese and yogurt.

We learned that milking a cow is hard work and very time consuming!

But the best thing about cows is making ice cream from their milk and cream!

Wonderful Weather

This week we focused on the different types of weather.  We learned that the sun is a gigantic ball of gas.  The sun helps things grow and is good for us too!  We learned that wind is created when warm air rises and cold air rushes in.  We had a great time using a fan to see what things the wind could move!  We also learned about the water cycle.  The sun heats up the water that is on the earth, which turns it to vapor.  The vapor then rises (evaporates) and gathers (condenses), into clouds.  When the clouds are heavy with moisture, it rains, and the cycle starts all over again.  The water cycle is a blast to experiment with.  We "caught" a cloud of moisture from a boiling pan of water.  We made sponges fill with water vapor and then rain.  We saw that air pressure can keep a piece of paper attached to an upside-down cup filled with water. Cool! Then we painted with water outside.  And guess what?  The water evaporated!  We painted our names, and they evaporated!  We painted rainbows, and fish, and flowers- and they evaporated!  We even tried to make a huge lake, but guess what? It evaporated too!!!

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

Face your fears - right?  I have to be honest, I do NOT like bugs, but bug week is one of my favorite weeks in preschool!  We start the week by learning about crickets. Each class gets a "pet" cricket.  They name it, feed it (put grass in the jar) and water it (put drops of water on a cotton ball).  Did you know that a cricket can jump 10x its body length?

We learned that there are good bugs, bugs that help us, such as ladybugs, praying mantis, and worms.  There are also bad bugs, bugs that are just pests, such as flies and mosquitoes.
We had a great time playing with a bunch of worms!

When we were through with the worms, we took them outside so they can live and help Miss Trudi's garden.

St. Patrick's Day!

We used shaving cream, paint and glue to make our own puff paint, then we painted a piece of paper. After the paint had dried, we cut out shamrocks.  We learned that shamrocks are a sign of good luck.

Then we made Leprechaun traps to try and catch Luck the Leprechaun.  Word has it that if you can catch a Leprechaun he will give you his pot of gold!

We made some pretty great traps, but alas, Lucky got away!  The good news is, he left a pot of gold candy and a note.  In the note he said that we almost caught his hat! Oh man!  Better luck next time!

Wild and Wacky Day!

Everyone needs a day to be weird and crazy-right?  Well, after a long winter that is just what we needed in preschool.  So on this day we all dressed as crazy as possible.  We played wacky games, and we even painted with our feet!

We even tried to write our names by holding a paintbrush in our toes.  Not as easy as it looks!!!
